Accommodating in a mechanical reproduction age, I found the article ’The work or art in the age of mechanical reproduction’ correlated with my practice.
Initially, in the essay, the political history then was introduced to be the contextual circumstances that art revolution took place. Paul Valery even claimed that we should expect great innovations to upgrade the total measure of arts, which might in turn bring about magnificent changes in the notion of art. Furthermore, through the essay, various social reality was described as to explain the changes took place in art history then, which all proved one truth, the superstructure determines the substructure. Thereafter, various changes in art notions and techniques then were demonstrated and analyzed. Accordingly, as for my practices, a range of projects were done with utilizing of the notion that medium is message. Owing to the shock this notion brought about my designs started to focus more on the actual media they are on, which can also be part of the message delivered deliberately. Furthermore, I could not realize the theory that the superstructure determines the substructure, yet I felt it vaguely. Through the vague feeling, many projects of mine were designed with a narrative notion. These are how the essay is related to my practice.
